of Petra Christian University, specifically on turn taking strategies. The writer
used theory from Stenstrom (1994) about the turn taking strategies. In this
research, the writer used descriptive approach, and then analyzed utterances which
contained turn taking used by participants in the meeting. The data of this research
were obtained by recording the conversation, transcribing, and translating the
data. The data analysis was based on the theory of turn taking strategies. From the
analysis, the writer found that almost all of the turn taking strategies was applied
in the meeting, except filled pauses and verbal. Turn taking strategies that were
applied were starting, taking over, interruption, silent pauses, repetition, new start,
prompting, appealing, and giving. The most frequent strategy in the meeting was
taking over. Taking over was the most frequent strategy because this was the
strategy about giving response to others.
