A Study of J.B. 'S struggles caused by his conflicts that lead him to face and solve his religious dilemma in Archibald Macleish's J.B.

This thesis is about the study of Archibald Mac Leish's
J.B. which reveals a modern man's religious dilem-
ma. As an adaptation of a Biblical story, this poetic
drama presents a modern Job who wins his life by struggling
against the world's harsh life. He must deal with
the inexplicable sufferings that come to his life and
these conflicts lead him into a religious dilemma. He is
in dilemma since he is confused about the image of God.
Besides, his conflicts with his wife, his three friends
also bring him to face the religious dilemma. The writer
is curious to know how he struggles to deal with his
dilemma. She analyzes the hero's struggle through the way
he deals with his conflicts. The writer finds that J.B.
finally succeeds in dealing with his conflicts and the religious
dilemma through the decisions he takes. He decides
to keep obeying God and even learns to put God in the
right position as the Ultimate Being. Further, he decides
to continue living in spite of what he haa experienced.
The writer concludes that the hero has courage to take up
his life again because he lets love and hope prevail.
