A Study on tess's motivation which reveals some elements of feminism in Thomas Hardy's Tess of the D'urbervilles

This thesis, entitled "A Study on Tess's Motivation Which Reveals Some
Elements of Feminism in Thomas Hardy's Tess of the d'Urbervilles". is focusing
on the analysis of the Tess's psychological conflicts related to her family, Alec,
and Angel. From the results of her conflicts, the writer finds out Tess's
motivation that reveals some elements of feminism. Due to her analysis, the
writer uses the related literature about Victorian women and feminism since the
main character is a Victorian woman. Besides, the literary theory on
characterization and the psychological theory on motivation will also be used.
The writer will use the theory of characterization in analyzing Tess's speech,
action, and the comments of other characters. The theory on motivation will be
used to analyze Tess's psychological conflicts. Ultimately, by means of the
theories, it is proved that Tess's motivation reveals some elements of feminism.
Through the results of her psychological conflicts, she shows that she is advanced
in believing the equality between men and women and radical in fighting for her
freedom. She proves that she is independent financially, independent in making a
decision, and capable in joining men's work.
