This thesis is a study of plot in Arnold Bennett 's The
old wives ' Tale . The author shows the role of setting,
character and conflict in the development of the plot.
The setting gives details of the story. Without setting,
there would be vagueness. This means that the setting
necessary to describe the story. The important thing is that
the setting leads the readers to the plot. The contribution
of setting to the plot is discussed in the second chapter of
this thesis writing.
Through the characters, the parental influence and its
effects are shown clearly in this novel. Besides, the
description of the major characters which have contrasting
traits prepares the readers to the conflict . The external
and internal conflict which happen between the characters
are really needed to move the plot . All of these facts are
discussed in the third and fourth chapter.
This thesis is then, concluded that the plot of this
novel becomes interesting for it is supported by the
