A Study of conflict in Sinclair Lewis's main street

Carol Kennicott is a sophisticated young woman who
comes to a small town of Gopher Prairie after she was
married. She dislikes the raw ugliness of Gopher Prairie
which really contrast to the place where she comes from.
This dislike makes Carol want to change Gopher Prairie
to be an ideal city. But Carol's ideas cannot be
realized there because she finds many obstacles.People
of Gopher Prairie do not like any changing. And the
opposite ideas of the two desires become the main
conflict of the story.
Then,Carol runs away from Gopher Prairie to find
her real identity.Through several conflicts she becomes
aware of her mistakes. Finally she goes back to Gopher
Prairie because she realizes that Gopher Prairie is
better than other places.
