A Study on Richard Steele's the conscious lovers as a sentimental comedy

This thesis is about a study of sentimental comedy by
one of the greatest English playwrights,Sir Richard Steele
entittled The Conscious Lovers (1722).The writer feels
that this play is interesting to be discussed since this
play is written through sentimentality and humor.Through
this study the writer wants to find out what idea is con -
veyed behind the humor and sentimentality elements of this
play.In this play,Steele uses the main characters and
also the minor ones to reveal the element of humor,senti -
mentality,and also moral teaching.The characters are:
Jack Bevil,Charles Myrtle,Indiana Denver,Lucinda Sealand,
Sir John,Cimberton,Phillis,Tom,and Cimberton.Finally,
at the end of this thesis,the writer can find out that
Steele wants to convey morality or moral teaching to the
audience.In other words,this play contains moral lessons
behind the humor and sentimentality elements.And she can
also find out the elements of humor,sentimentality,and
moral teaching that are contained in this play.
