A Sociolinguistic study of speech features of Indonesian women language as seen through Lakoff's theory

This thesis is the analysis about the speech features of Indonesian women language. It is a sociolinguistic study which uses content analysis as a research method. In this thesis, the writer try to find the speech features which are produced by Indonesian women by recording their conversation. In collecting the data, the writer uses a small hidden tape recorder. Then, the writer analyze the data collected and put them into tables which show different speech features as described by Lakoff. After that, the writer put the data which have been analyzed into summary tables, in order to know whether the data presented approximate American women language. As their respondents, the writer took adult women.Then, the writer gives the conclusion after analysing the result from the summary tables. As a conclusion, the writer finds that women in Indonesia have a tendency to produce an emphatic stress and hedges or fillers, also avoid strong swear more than other features.However, Indonesian women do almost the same way as described by Lakoff.
