Code mixing among students of Faculty of Letters at Petra Christian University

The study aims at finding the pattern of Code-Mixing among Petra Christian University students of English Department.It is interested in arriving at the languages in Code-Mixing used by students of Faculty of Letters and the situation in which they occur. The writer observes only spoken Code-Mixing of '90 and '91 students of Faculty of Letters.The languages she observed were Javanese,Indonesian,and English. For data collection,a small tape-recorder was used to record the respondents'conversation.The data were analysed to know which languages in Code-Mixing mostly used by English Department students and in what situations they occur. The results showed that Indonesian-Javanese was mostly spoken by English Department students.Code-Mixing mostly happened in informal situation (before or after class,at the library,and in the schoolyard).It was also found that some students mixed those languages in formal situation (during class and conference).
