A Study of the main character Richard Miller's maturity process as seen in Eugene O'Neill's play Entitled Ah Wildernes!

In this thesis, the writer focuses her analysis of the conflicts that the main
character, Richard Miller has, in Eugene O?Neill?s Ah?wilderness! The writer sees
that Richard Miller has many conflicts in his life, whether external or internal. In
the analysis of this thesis, the writer wants to use literary theory, especially the
theory of conflicts and the theory of characterization as the main tools. In addition,
the writer also uses the theory of overcoming conflicts and the theory of
personality by Carl Rogers. Ah?wilderness! Is a play about a teenage named
Richard and his ways to become a mature person in his life. As a teenager, he often
faces many conflicts in his life. The conflicts are between him with other people
around him, and between him and his mind. In this thesis, the writer wants to show
conflicts that happen in Richard?s life as his process to become a mature person.
Thus, the writer want to show how is Richard Miller?s immaturity character at the
beginning , how is his maturity process and how he finally become a mature
person.
