comedies depends largely upon mistakes and confusion brought about by disguise or family resemblance. Hence, the writer wants to discuss the confusion and mistakes that later leads to the emergence of the misunderstandings found in the drama in the analysis. She will also limit the scope of discussion by analyzing the main characters: Viola and Sebastian which are involved in the mistaken identity. Moreover, she tries to show how the confusion and mistakes may lead to the cross-love pattern which later to the romantic union. Therefore, she focuses on the theme of disguised identity which are seen in the main characters, Viola and Sebastian in Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. Besides, she also wants to know what conflicts have been emerged as the effects of the mistaken identities and misunderstandings. In analyzing this play, the writer uses the theory of plot and theory of characters. The analysis shows that the cross-love pattern emerges as the result of the mistaken identity of the brother-sister twins, Sebastian and Viola, and their love adventures with Olivia and Orsino. Furthermore, this love also causes conflicts even between the main characters themselves or with the supporting characters. However, after all the confusion and mistakes, the puzzle was
explained. Matches are made all around. The twin brother and sister were both wedded on the same day. Viola was the wife of Orsino, the duke of Illyria, and Sebastian the husband of the rich and noble countess, the lady Olivia.
