A Study of Pavel Petrovich?s post-power syndrome in Ivan Turgenev?s fathers and sons

This thesis is a study about Post-Power Syndrome of Pavel Petrovich
character in Ivan Sergeyevitch Turgenev?s Fathers and Sons. The purpose of
writing this thesis is to analyze Pavel Petrovich?s character when he lives
under the post-power syndrome .To analyze Pavel Petrovich as the main
character in this play, the writer uses literary approach namely
characterization and conflict and also the concept of post-power syndrome.
After doing the analysis of Fathers and Sons, the writer finds that Pavel as a
character in the novel represents the old generation who live under his
admiration of his past life and would never respect the modern life. Besides
that, Pavel stands for the old traditional and romantic past and he can never
break away from this past to become a functional man of the present world.
He insists on maintaining old views, even though he never bothers to examine
the truths of these beliefs. Based on all this analysis, the writer can conclude
that Pavel infected by the post-power syndrome because of the early
retirement he gets.
