Teacher’s roles and students’ attitude in freedom writers movie

This study is focused on chosen teacher’ roles and students’ attitudes movie
found in Freedom Writers movie from the classroom scenes. There were some theories on teacher’s roles and students’ attitudes used: Harmer (2001), Brown (2007) and the other theory from Wenden (1991). This study was the qualitative research related to classroom management. The study was limited to the teacher’s roles and students’ attitude in six chosen classroom scenes. To collect the data, the transcription was used to analyze the teacher’s roles that could be
obtain from the students and Erin Gruwell’s interaction. The findings of this study revealed there were five types of teacher’s roles used by Erin Gruwell: controller, organiser, participant, resource, and observer. There were two types of students’ attitudes: positive and negative attitudes from the cognitive, behavioral, and evaluative components. The findings showed the teacher’ roles have effect on the attitudes of the students whether the attitude is positive or negative from three components: cognitive, behavioral, and evaluative. The conclusion was teacher was need to know how to make the students have more positive attitudes rather than the negative attitudes.
