A Study of the main character's changing mind caused by the elements in Shangri-la in James Hilton's lost horizon

This thesis conveys principally the writer's presumption that in James Hilton's Lost Horizon, the main character namely Hugh Conway undergoes mind changing which is influenced by the elements in Shangri-La. The
writer also perceives that the changing is strange since it is contradictory with his nature as a man who is clever, wise and has high sense of responsibility to his duty. Having such assumption , therefore, the writer, in the analysis, intends to prove that the main character's incapability to conduct his mind about his settlement to abide in that earth heaven is caused by the elements in Shangri-La. The setting and the two characters: High Lama and Lo-Tsen constitute the most essential elements in Shangri-La for his changing mind.
As a further aim, she wants to confirm that the changing is really antagonistic with his well-admired qualities. In order to make the analysis effective, literary
approach is applied by addressing aspects such as character, characterization, setting and conflict. By means of those aspects, ultimately it is concluded that
the main character's incompetence to control his mental balance is caused by the elements in Shangri-La and that the changing is peculiar as it is irreconcilable with his personalities.
