A Sociolinguistic study of code switching used by the Ambonese architecture students of Petra Christian University

This is a study of code switching, especially code switching among the
students in architecture department in Petra Christian University. The writer is
interested in analyzing the codes that they used when they code switched and the
code which was mostly used in their daily conversation. In doing the study, the
writer used descriptive quantitative approach. To obtain the data, she listened to
the conversation and recorded the conversation in informal situation. Afterwards,
she classified the data in the table. In her research, she found that Ambonese
architecture students used four codes in their daily conversations. They usually
used Indonesian when they wanted to start the conversation. The switching was
mostly between Indonesia to other languages such as English, Javanese and
Ambonese. They tend to code switch mostly from Indonesian to English
