A Study of Arthur Rowe's sense of guilt in Graham Greene's The Ministry of Fear

This thesis concerns with the study of the sense of guilt of the main
character in Graham Greene?s The Ministry of Fear. The thesis writer analyzes
Arthur Rowe as the main character, who has an inner conflict because he has
killed his wife based on pity that causes him to have guilty feeling. The thesis
writer is interested in analyzing the process of overcoming the sense of guilt of
Arthur Rowe in which his inner conflict is the most influential factor in solving
his problem with his enemies. Arthur Rowe?s action for killing his wife and
getting acquittal from the court are the reasons why he has a guilty feeling. As the
result, his sense of guilt haunts him and makes him sensitive if people talk about
his past life, moreover he cannot love another woman. However, at the end, the
thesis writer finds out that Arthur Rowe can overcome his sense of guilt by facing
his problems and comes to terms with himself and lives with the woman he loves.
