A Study of Joe Bonaparte's ambition as seen in Cliffort Odet's Golden Boy

This thesis is a study on Joe Bonaparte's ambition
in Clifford Odets's Golden Boy. Joe has an ambition to
be rich and popular. He chooses prizefighting to make
his ambition come true. He is willing to change his
self to achieve his ambition. Thus, the thesis writer
is curious to know how Joe's ambition make him deny his
self and to know the consequences of his ambition
toward his life. The purpose of this thesis is to
analyze Joe's bartering his soul to achieve his
ambition and to show that Joe's ambition leads him to
his failure. To achieve her goal, the thesis writer
uses literary approach like theory of characterization,
theory of conflict, theory of ambition, and theory of
self-identity. Joe denies his nature in music and
cannot totally fight. He chooses prizefighting to get
popularity and money. When he kills his opponent, he
knows that his career is over. He has no career in
music either because of his broken hands, then Joe
solves his problems in death.
