A Study on rejection toward Maggie as seen in Stephen Crane's Maggie: a girl of the streets

The thesis writer decides to analyze Stephen
Crane's, Maggie: A Girl of the Streets and chooses the
title A Study on Rejection Toward Maggie Johnson
because the writer is interested in the rejection of
Maggie Johnson's family and society toward her which
causes her death. The writer is curious to find out
the factor which causes Maggie to be rejected by the
family and society and how this rejection causes her
death. The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the
factor which causes Maggie to be rejected by family and
society and to discuss the rejection that leads to her
death. In analyzing the topic, the thesis writer uses
literary criticism on Maggie: A Girl of the Streets and
the theories of characterization, conflict and setting
as her tools. Maggie as a normal human being has a
desire to live in a better condition outside her home.
Later, her family's condition and her desire to gain a
better life have made her rejected because in gaining
her dream, Maggie is out of her society's moral value.
Finally the rejection makes her feels lonely and
unhappy and it causes her death.
