In this thesis, the writer wants to analyze Browning's Andrea del Sarto and Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came. The writer is interested in the idea of man's life as revealed by the poet, Robert Browning through the monologues.' As a Victorian poet. Browning concerned with the life of man especially the sorrow and the failure. In this analysis, the writer wants to discuss the use of monologue as an artistic means to constuct an idea of life. Through this technique, the description of the characters, that is, the speakex's' thoughts, feelings and hopes are revealed. Whereas, the study of the monologue has to include an analysis on the poetic language as well as an understanding of the idea conveyed by the language. Through the monologues, the readers can study the lives of the speakers. The speakers speak about their experiences of life and their struggle against failure. The speakers in the monologues, who have sorrowful lives are very optimistic. They believe that they can win the struggle and succeed to reach their goals. Through the monologues. Browning wants the readers to participate in the experiences of the speakers. In addition, the readers can feel sympathy or antipathy to the speakers.
