A study of Mrs. Warren's choise of profession in George Bernard Shaw's Mrs. Warren's profession

George Bernard Shaw?s Mrs. Warren?s Profession is mainly about life of a Victorian working class woman, Mrs. Warren. Mrs. Warren, the main character always tries to be a good, "respectable" woman by working a decent job. However,
finally she chooses to be a prostitute. This study attempts to analyze Mrs. Warren?s reasons for choosing prostitution as her profession and the consequences of her choice. In analyzing the work, the writer uses literary tools, such as characterization and settings. After analyzing the play, she concludes that Mrs. Warren?s poor working condition becomes her first reason in choosing prostitution as her profession since she experiences herself how unpleasant living poorly and it arises her awareness of the importance of stepping out of it. The other reason is Mrs. Warren seeks for a
better living, respect, and wealth. Besides that, the writer reveals the consequences of Mrs Warren?s choice are living separately from her daughter, losing respect, affection, and right as a mother, and finally, being rejected by her daughter. At last, Mrs. Warren realizes that there is a price for every choice.
