Library's collection Library's IT development CancelThis study observes the use of conversational structure in speech exchange between an insurance agent and his four clients. It is possible that from the kinds of conversational structure, it can influence the flow in the conversation. The writer uses the theories by Stephen C. Levinson (1983) and George Yule (1996). The writer recorded the conversation between an insurance agent and his clients and analyzed the conversational structure how it affect the result of prospecting the clients. She provides number of frequency to find out the rank of the conversational structure used. From the analysis, the writer found out that the conversational structure used the most by the agent and clients is turn-taking, and the last is overlaps. In addition, 3 out of 4 clients agreed to be followed up. Therefore, it can be gathered that the use of conversational structure is effective enough. From this study, the writer expects the insurance agents in Indonesia to be more aware with the use of conversational structure in prospecting their clients.
