Impact of board diversity to financial performance in Indonesian listed manufacturing companies

The study is conducted to examine the influence of board diversity to financial performance of listed companies in Indonesia. This study extends the empirical evidence on the diversity on board and its impact to the financial performance in Indonesian context which still rarely discussed previously. Board diversity, as the independent variable uses three indicator variable of gender diversity, nationality diversity, and education diversity. Financial performance will be measured using return on asset (ROA) and Tobin’s Q. This research is focused on the manufacturing companies listed in Indonesian Stock Exchange and published their annual report in the year 2011-2015 (5 years). The data observation in this research including 525 data from 105 listed manufacturing companies. Statistical analysis of ordinary least square (OLS) will be conducted using IBM SPSS Statistics 19. The result of the study reveals that the women on board have a negative impact to the return on asset and Tobin’s Q. Foreigners on board have a positive impact to the financial performance measured with return on asset and Tobin’s Q. While education on board have no significant impact to return on asset, and have negative impact to Tobin’s Q.
