applied are the theories of characterization and of conflict. In analyzing the novel,
the thesis writer finds out that the causes of Heathcliff?s revenge are the mental
and physically torture from Hindley, the love betrayal from Catherine and the
underestimation from his competitor, Edgar while the effects of the main male
character?s revenge on his own life result in the unsatisfied, guilty and the uneasy
feelings toward his life. Furthermore, the thesis writer concludes that the effects of
the revenge are very destructive to the main male character?s life and also to the
people in his surrounding.
