Continuous review and improvement in operating units is a crucial factor for a
multinational company in order to be more competitive. This operating unit is
trying to improve their purchasing performance by having some inspection. The
inspection is a way to control the implementation of organization standard. The
method of inspection is by interviewing the related persons. Another tool that can
improves the performance of the purchasing department is electronic data
interchange. By using EDI, it will bring a positive change for business conducted
between purchasers and suppliers for the future. Companies and suppliers are
operating more practically in a real time environment can reduce total cost of
purchases and communication can be more accurate and efficient. There are some
surveys about ED1 conducted in America and Canada, case studies and also the
real implementation in Indonesia. Therefore, the implementation of EDI in this
operating unit should be considered.
