A study on the main character's controversial attitudes to his people that reflect his ideas about life in Albert camus's caligula

Caligula, the main character in the play, has found the truth that "men die and they are not happy". A simple truth leads to the catastrophe toward people Rome. By using his people? s card that treasury is the paramount important, Caligula starts to play a part as the prophet to his people. He shows the truth. He kills men, harasses women and forces them to work in public brothel. He turns himself to be a man with a great power to make suffer as a "daily bread" for his people. Caligula?s attitudes makes the thesis writer assumes that he does this as the part of his plan to leads his people to the truth that he finds. Weiten says in a glossary of psychology Themes and Variations that attitudes have more dimensions in it. According to him attitudes have three elements that cannot go by itself; cognitive, affective and behaviour (456-7). The thesis writer is going to see more in Caligula attitudes based on these dimension of attitudes according Weiten. The thesis writer tries to analyse Caligula?s controversial attitudes in his life by exploring more on Caligula?s behaviours and ideas. She analyses the behaviour from the conflict between Caligula and his people based on his people reaction. In the end of the discussion, she find out that a person?s attitudes can effect others life. She also finds out that one? s truth does not mean belongs to the others, everybody has his or her own truth and way to apply it in his or her life. The methodology that is going to be used is literary approach; characterization and conflict. She also bases her analysis on the Weiten?s dimension of the attitude.
