The effect of women on boards on firm value: evidence from Indonesian manufacturing and retail industry

This research examines the relationship between women’s presence, education and tenure with firm value. To investigate the association, we rely on a sample of 177 firms belonging to Indonesian manufacturing and retail industry that are listed in IDX between 2015-2020. The software GRETL is used to test the proposed hypotheses. Specifically, author uses the Weighted Least Square regression to test the research model.
This research uses Tobin’s Q as a measure of firm value. Several control variables are included in this research namely, firm size, capital expenditure, asset turnover, leverage, and industry. Result of this research reveal that there is no correlation between women’s presence on board of directors and firm value. Meanwhile, women’s education and tenure have significant relationship with the firm value.
