Library's collection Library's IT development CancelThis research is conducted in order to find out the types and the frequencies of codes which are used in some domains by the Munanese parents and their children in Surabaya. The writer mainly bases her research on the theory from Janet Holmes (2001), particularly in the domains of language use theory. This research uses descriptive quantitative approach. The writer obtains the data from the observation using the questionnaire of Munanese parents and their children in Surabaya. The questionnaire consists of two parts; the first parts is the respondent?s backgrounds that consists of the place of birth, the age, sex, education, kinds of jobs and the duration living in Surabaya. The second part is the code that is used in some domains. There are 6 domains used by the writer to collect the data. Then, the writer classifies the data based on the parents and children, puts it on the table and counts the result. As the result, the respondents use three codes, namely, Indonesian, Munanese and Suroboyoan. They use Indonesian language in most domains, and the frequency of the Indonesian code is higher than the other codes.
